Juromenha is a parish in the municipality of Alandroal with alternative name of Our Lady of Loreto. They are ancient origins of Juromenha, which occupied the honorable role of sentinel of the river Guadiana, which flows at its feet.

It was conquered from the Moors (then the name of Julumaniya, which in an improper reading of Arabic was transcribed by some historians as Chelmena) by King Afonso Henriques in 1167. She then entered in the fields of the Order of Avis, which was donated by King Sancho I. It held some important episodes during the wars of the Restoration (seventeenth century) and Peninsular (nineteenth century). Juromenha was part of the Diocese of Elvas until 1882, when it was extinguished.

After its annexation in the county of Alandroal, Juromenha began a process of decline, accentuated in the 1920s, when the population has totally abandoned the intramural space, developing the suburbs around the shrine of St. Anthony, which today is the fundamental core the village.
